SumiCards were inspired by Japanese Sumi-e brush painting. I began painting floral cards from my gardens on our farm in Floyd, Virginia 25 years ago. I gave them to friends and family. After a positive response I started to sell them in stores in Virginia and elsewhere. My goal was, and still is, to deliver beautiful paintings at an affordable price that people can share with one another.

The watercolor and oil paintings are a continuation and expansion of this goal. My art education at the New York Studio School was rooted in the traditions of beauty and form inherent in Western art. The Japanese aesthetic is about freedom, precision and capturing the essential nature of things.

 I have merged my passion for the Eastern aesthetic with the Western to synthesize a way of capturing the world in two dimensions.
